How Do I Protest My Taxes?
Assessments of property are done by elected township assessors. The assessment of your property is an important part of the calculation which produces the amount of taxes you owe.

If you are not satisfied after you speak with your township assessor, you may utilize the following two appeal processes.
One appeal is to the appointed three-member Will County Board of Review. This appeal seeks to reduce the assessment which helps set the next year’s property tax bill. The thirty-day time period during which one can file this appeal begins when the Supervisor of Assessments publishes revised assessments in late August of every year. A property owner can file an appeal during the thirty-day time period even if his or her assessment has not been revised. For complete information, please refer to the Board of Review’s website.

The other appeal requires filing a Tax Objection Complaint with the elected Clerk of the Circuit Court. This appeal seeks to reduce the current year’s property taxes. The Tax Objection Complaint must be filed within seventy-five days of the property tax 2nd installment due date, which this year is Sept. 1, 2009.
